Bracelet MACH 2 L-Birds "Back to Normandy Edition"

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, Aéro-Design is once again paying tribute to the L-BIRDS, mythical and legendary aircraft.

Light and robust, they could land on rudimentary airstrips, in fields, on small roads, and even on beaches. These liaison aircraft provided rapid transport for personnel and sensitive equipment. They also served as aerial observation platforms for directing artillery fire and for taking aerial photographs to gather intelligence. It was also thanks to them that the concept of medical evacuation developed considerably.

On June 6, 1944, the first L-Bird aircraft were deployed in Normandy. A patrol of five Piper L-4s crossed the English Channel under the command of American Lieutenant Dave Condon (aboard his Stinson L-5). They landed at Saint-Martin-de-Varreville (Utah Beach): this patrol of six L-Birds was the first landing of Allied aircraft on Norman soil.

The L-Birds accompanied the advancing troops until the end of the war. While fighters and bombers were repatriated to their countries of origin, these small aircraft were left behind and used to train thousands of pilots after the war. Very few are preserved or restored today.
